Our latest update for Dangerous Driving brings support for PC Steering Wheels. We tried to think of a clever and amusing name we really did. But these wheels are serious pieces of kit for serious drivers, so no jokes until next time!

Thanks to our friends at both Thrustmaster and Logitech the following PC Steering Wheels can now be used in-game:

Thrustmaster:

TX Racing Wheel
TMX Pro
TS-PC Racer
TS-XW Racer
T-GT
T150 Pro
T300 RS

Logitech:

G29
G920

Supported Features:

– Steering Wheel and Pedals supported in standard configuration (accelerator on left, brake in middle)
– Buttons on Wheel – default configurations for all wheels, user-configurable to override default buttons in settings menu.
– Force Feedback (off-road judder, shunt/slam wobble, self-centring spring, “light steering” when in-air)

Custom Hypercars

In addition to the above we have added 2 custom versions of the Hypercar for anyone who plays the game with a Steering Wheel on PC. They are available in the single-player game to be used in the Hypercar Series events.

The first is available to players who use any of our supported steering wheels, and is a nod to our favourite Racing Cockpit company, Next Level Racing. This is a custom-painted Tuned Hypercar. In other words, it’s perfect for Heatwave Events.

Steering Wheel screenshot

The second is just for people playing on any of the supported Thrustmaster steering wheels. This custom skin sits on an Advanced Hypercar. Therefore this is ideal for Road Rage and anywhere else you want to smash up your rivals.

Steering Wheel screenshot

Many people told us not to bother with adding steering wheel support to Dangerous Driving on PC. We were told it’s a small and niche audience that won’t be interested in our arcade racing game. But we met many fans at the PAX East Show in Boston who asked if it was something we could do. We know many of you have some amazing dedicated steering wheel setups at home. So, despite being a small indie team, we decided to give it a crack.

Rage Hard

First of all, we’re here to tell you that the Road Rage update is now live on all platforms and includes the following changes:

  • New Mode “Road Rage Online” (see below)
  • HDR10 support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One S and Xbox One X
  • Online shunt and slam reactions have been tuned to allow more car to car battling and fighting resulting in reduced incidence of one touch Takedowns
  • We fixed the issue of Rank occasionally not saving correctly at the end of Online Race
  • Online Leaderboard occasionally not updating correctly is now fixed!
  • Online Events being Ranked as a loss due to host quitting online session is also now fixed
  • The strange issue of Lap not counting due to player crashing on Finish Line is now fixed
  • Created Option to allow user to select radial blur on or off via the Options Menu
  • Additional HUD and Frontend improvements
  • Improvements to the HUD Message system. The number of messages on screen at any time has been reduced. All messages have been re-prioritised to show the most relevant ones
  • Improvement to the Draw Distance of Headlights of Oncoming Traffic

Secondly, we can also tell you about a new Online Game mode that you can now play!

What is Road Rage Online?

Team up Online for a fight to the finish. The Blue Team races and the Red Team chases across all 7 regions of the game.

The Blue Team must fight off the Red Team and survive to the finish. The Red Team must Takedown all the Blue Team to Eliminate them before they can escape.

In the heat of battle if you are Eliminated you can remain in the fight, run interference against the Red Team and try to help your Team score a Team Win!

And what’s better than winning? A Perfect Victory! For the Blue Team you must get yourself and ALL your Teammates safely over the line. For the Red Team you must eliminate the Blue Team WITHOUT being Takendown.

Whose side are you on?

Thirdly, there’s a new ruleset to this classic mode…

As it’s Hell on the Highway and Rough out there on the Road it is easy to lose sight of Team Orders and Takedown your own side. If this happens you will be called out as a Traitor!

Sometimes no one wants to be on the losing Team. If this is you you can now choose to be Rebel and switch Teams after Elimination.

In other words, if you can’t play clean play dirty!

In conclusion, be sure to check out our Your Questions Answered Post for more information and don’t forget to subscribe to the Dangerous Driving Club.

Dangerous Driving Update #5 High Stakes

High Stakes is the latest Dangerous Driving Update and is now live on all platforms and includes the following changes:

  • New Elo Ranking system online (see below)
  • Vertical Takedowns
  • Added Twin Ferry Lakes tracks to the online track options
  • Leaderboards can now be scrolled up and down
  • Increase leaderboard rows displayed from 7 to 10
  • Track online races played and completed and display stats in the lobby
  • Formula DD tyres now spin at the correct speed
  • Added track logos to the loading screens
  • Fixed frame pacing. This leads to smoother 30Hz play and reduced input latency
  • Fixed priorities on HUD messages including traffic takedowns and online takedowns
  • Fixed the background movie pausing

New “High Stakes” ELO Ranking system

We have changed the ranking system in the High Stakes Dangerous Driving update. The previous ranking system used Dangerous Driving Points. You would earn one DDPoint for finishing the race and one DDPoint for each player beaten.

We have moved away from this and we have a brand new ranking system that takes into account player skill.

Why have we changed it?

There were several features we didn’t like in the DDPoint ranking system. It was difficult to catch a player that had more DDPoints. If you played against a higher ranking player and won you would only close the gap by a single DDPoint.

Secondly, lower rank players were unfairly punished as the rewards for winning or losing were the same no matter how skilled the other players were.

Finally, the old system encouraged players to play shorter events. The quickest way to increase your DDPoints was to play the Island Lighthouse over and over again. We have aim to fix this with the High Stakes Update.

What does it mean for you?

When you next go online after downloading the High Stakes Update for Dangerous Driving you will find your rank has changed and will be somewhere between 1200 and 2500.

We have calculated your initial rank from your existing DDPoints. Players who haven’t played online before will start with a rank of 1200. Players who have earnt a lot of DDPoints from playing before the update will start closer to 2500.

After each race we compare you against every other player in the race. You will earn some points for every player you beat and you will lose some points for every player that beats you. The number of points you win or lose depends on how skilled the other player is. However, if you beat a player that’s a higher rank than you, you will earn more points. When you beat a player that is a lower rank than you, you will still earn points but less. If the other players rank is much lower than yours, you won’t earn any points.

On top of this, the number of points you win or lose is also determined by the length of the race. Longer races mean you will win or lose more points.

One important thing to note here is that this is a ranking system so it’s possible for you rank to go down as well as up. Indeed some players will find they start at 1200 and go down if they keep losing. This isn’t a bad thing, the game is just figuring out your skill level. You will find that after a few games your rank will stop dropping even if you lose and when you start winning you will gain more points as you are a lower rank.

Let us know what you think of the High Stakes Update! Get in touch!

Dangerous Driving Update#3 Fully Comp

“Fully Comp” is the third Update for Dangerous Driving. We’re pleased to announce that the Update is now live and available for download on PSN and Xbox Live. This update is a significant one.

If you want Fixes, you got it!

Here are the main changes included in this “Fully Comp” update to Dangerous Driving

  • Host of improvements to physics and collisions including:
    • Improve collision after a Takedown to reduce the likelihood of the player car intersecting the road and spinning rapidly, before being reset to the track
    • Decrease the chance of player car going underneath a rival and being forced through the road
    • Reduce the likelihood of getting launched into the air as a result of ramming a rival (surely this is the epitome of Dangerous Driving?)
    • Limit being spawned facing the wrong way after a collision
    • Improve collision with barriers to address the situation where the player car gets lifted up or stuck and being spun around
    • Make the consistency of collisions with traffic better – traffic is now always fatal (we have slightly reduced the amount of traffic to accommodate this)

But wait! There’s more! It’s a “Fully Comprehensive” Update

  • Improvements in joining online games – to reduce the number of network errors being returned when trying to join a game; we have also added some extra tools to analyse where and why the failures are happening
  • Restore the in-Garage ticker showing the car stats and mileage (went missing in the last update!)
  • Fix for Wrecks not getting cleared online – this may be a player selectable option in a future update
  • Fix an issue at the U turn on the Hypercar Class Shakedown event where players get stuck in a crash/respawn /crash loop
  • Improve how player is reset on track after a crash in Dangerous Driving
  • Save Sensitivity options – previously reset each time the game was relaunched
  • Remove reset on the right stick camera movement. It will instead reset when you crash or restart
  • Fix for Pursuit vehicles taking each other down and ending the event early
  • Upgrade to latest Unreal Engine for improved graphical performance and faster load times for Dangerous Driving

We’re excited about getting these fixes out to you. We’ve also firmed up the plan for the next update to Dangerous Driving Check out our roadmap page for more details.

There are 2 known issues on console which are currently being fixed :
  • On PlayStation – the second half of a Point to Point track won’t always load in and you can get caught in a crash loop. UPDATE: This has been fixed by a PS4 update on June 18th

DANGEROUS DRIVING

Dangerous Driving is evolving – to date it has all been about Single Player Racing but we’re in the process of introducing Networked Online Racing.

It’s an exciting step. It’s something we started doing back in 2004 so we all have experience of it and something we have been itching to get back to.

Dangerous Driving logo

That said it’s not straightforward, if we were ever in danger of forgetting that the last 2 weeks has been a blunt reminder! Adding online play is just really complex, it’s why many small development teams don’t do it.

But we’re in this for the long term and Online is central to the experiences we want to create – so here we are as I write this today, Friday afternoon, and 2 of the guys are out (and our 7th member works off site) so there are just 4 of us, making a 6 player online game!

In keeping with how we have approached everything in the last few years we are taking a step by step approach, focusing on the fundamentals first.

Dangerous Driving Online Play

Here’s what is in the first Online Update :

  • 6 player online racing.
  • A Ranking system directly related to your finishing position in each race. Finish a race and you will get 1 point plus another point for every person you beat, giving a maximum of 6 points per race (As we add more game modes we will likely add more ways to earn points)
  • 18 pre set events.
  • Client Server but without a dedicated Server – so one player will be the host and they will create the game and choose the event (and hence the car).

We’ve kept the first release deliberately focused. Our first priority is getting a good, competitive online race and that has 2 main aspects to it:

  1. Good technical solutions to minimize lag, to ensure players are where they appear to be and all the other quite complicated programming that has to happen to ensure you can find players, get into a game and have that game play out as you would expect it to.
  2. Balancing solutions to ensure the race itself is fun – and a lot of this comes down to game balancing to ensure that its a level playing field based around player skill.

Fortunately we have had a bit of experience in both of these areas.

One of the big technical challenges we face is synchronising players together when they’re travelling at over 200 mph – this involves a trade off of making the opponents travel smoothly round the track whilst needing to update their position regularly so that you have a fair chance of taking them down. It’s all about finding the Sweet spot between accuracy and reaction.

The reason we have gone for a Client Server model without a dedicated server is really for simplicity and ease of support going forward. We’ve never been a fan of servers being turned off and as a small team we have to choose solutions that fit how we work. That’s the same reason we have opted to start with 6 players – there are 6 of us in the office so we can test that every day and we make a point of playing at least 3-4 times every day.

Dangerous Driving Multiplayer
Dangerous Driving Online Play 2
Dangerous Driving Multiplayer Takedown

To balance the game around player skill we have made a few changes to how the game works online such as introducing a much larger penalty (speed loss) for hitting barriers. We’ve also re-tuned Boost earning to really reward dangerous driving.

We’re also aiming for a consistent number of traffic cars around each player. However online these will only appear in oncoming – which increases the risk / reward balance. You’ll earn more boost driving in oncoming but it increases the risk of your crashing.

To keep things fair players will always be in the same car type. Even within one class the speeds vary by up to 30 mph making the races very unbalanced if we didn’t do this.

Our first online offering will focus on getting these fundamentals right – to do that we have accepted some limitations. 6 players, no host migration, start with one game mode, pre set events that the host chooses.

We’ll talk more soon about what else we will add but right now our focus is on getting this first update into submission so we can get it to you as soon as possible.

We’re excited about bringing Dangerous Driving to an online audience.

UPDATE (June 18 2019) – Third Party, Fire & Theft is now live on PlayStation4, Xbox One and PC.

DANGEROUS DRIVING UPDATE #1

No Claims Bonus is the first Update for Dangerous Driving. It’s now available for download on PS4 Xbox One and PC.

We’ve been listening to your feedback and the No Claims Bonus Dangerous Driving update contains the fixes listed below:

  • Prevent unfeasibly short leaderboard entries
  • Fixes an issue that would cause a Crash on Xbox when signing out of the game (according to the stats from Microsoft this accounts for 18% of all Crashes on Xbox)
  • Fixes an issue that would cause a Crash during gameplay on all platforms when hitting quit during Danger Time
  • Prevents AI shooting past the player at super sonic speed
  • Prevents AI speed not being capped when you’re in Takedown Camera (hence why they speed past you)
  • Ensures Aftertouch Takedowns give you the advantage they should (not reset at back)
  • Ensures laps always register on Hypercar Shakedown event on Desert Marathon
  • Stops AI always crashing at start of Island Lighthouse track
  • Minimises player getting reset behind persistent wrecks after a Crash
  • Ensures it is possible to get Platinum medal on Formula DD Survival Event

No Claims Bonus is just the start. We will be publishing a roadmap this week of other Dangerous Driving Updates and fixes with the priority on Collision fixes and adding Online Racing. Check out the Known Issues list on our FAQ for more info.

Announcing Spotify integration into “Dangerous Driving” https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/2019/04/09/spotify-integration-in-dangerous-driving/ Tue, 09 Apr 2019 14:30:05 +0000 http://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/?p=3128 The post Announcing Spotify integration into “Dangerous Driving” appeared first on Three Fields Entertainment.

]]>

We are delighted that the music in Dangerous Driving will be delivered via Spotify which is a first for racing games. Follow ‘Three Fields’ to see our dream playlist.

We have long believed that racing games shouldn’t have just one soundtrack. Music, especially the music you drive to, is incredibly personal – and changes based on your mood. It would be hard to have just one soundtrack that suited all players in all those moments. (Even if it was possible it would be beyond the budget of an independent developer.)

That’s why we love things like Spotify’s ‘Songs to listen to in the car’, a smart playlist which picks music for you based on the music you already like to listen to – its personal for everybody.

Whilst Spotify has existed on console for a while not everyone remembers to go set it up and also you have to either control it from another device or keep exiting the game to change track etc. Its not integrated.

You’ll be able to authorise it from within the Audio Menu and from then on you’ll be able to control your music from within the game. And the current implementation is, we hope, just the start of a fully featured integration which includes gameplay triggered music!

Here is a quick guide to getting Spotify working in Dangerous Driving.

Spotify needs a premium account. Authorization will fail if you don’t do this.

Go to Settings -> Audio -> Authorize Spotify

This will give you a code (example below).
Note: You don’t have to match case or hyphens. Zero and Capital O look very similar, but zero has a diagonal line through it. Codes expire after 10 minutes.
If your code is not recognised try again after 10 minutes and get a new code / enter it on a different browser.
If you accidentally link the wrong account you will need to load up your Spotify account and log in to the Apps page and Remove Access to Spotify from Dangerous Driving. You can then link it to the correct account.
Once you have entered your code, make sure you Continue from the screen by pressing A or X.
Back cancels and will always fail. Continue will check authorization.

Once you have Spotify authorized make sure you have Spotify running on the device (PlayStation4, Xbox One or PC) and choose a playlist. You will then be able to control that from within the game.

The current implementation is, we hope, just the start of a fully featured integration which includes gameplay triggered music!

You will need a Spotify Premium account to access this but you can get a 1 month free trial so we highly recommend you check it out.

If you see the screen below you will need to ensure that Spotify is running on your Xbox/PS4/PC. Go out to the dashboard/minimise the game etc and open Spotify and then return to the game.

“Dangerous Driving” – Why Vehicle Classes Are Important https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/2019/04/06/dangerous-driving-vehicle-classes/ Sat, 06 Apr 2019 10:48:42 +0000 http://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/?p=3255 The post “Dangerous Driving” – Why Vehicle Classes Are Important appeared first on Three Fields Entertainment.

]]>

It’s time to talk about why Vehicle Classes are important in Dangerous Driving!

There are just a few days to go until Dangerous Driving launches. It’s the perfect time to share more details about the different vehicles used in the game.

The 27 vehicles in Dangerous Driving. They are spread across six Vehicle Classes: Sedan, SUV, Coupe, Supercar, Hypercar and Formula DD.

Each class has a Base Vehicle and then a Tuned, Advanced and Prototype variant. Base Vehicles are unlocked at the start of each new Tier of Events. The other 3 variants are unlocked by winning a Gold Medals. Go head to head in Face Off Events to unlock upgraded Vehicles.

There are over 400 combinations of car and livery in the game. Here are just a few!

Vehicles that are tailor made for Modes – we wanted to make car choice meaningful. We didn’t want there to be just 1 ‘best’ car (especially when we take the game online – coming soon in FREE DLC). You make a choice based on the mode and your playing style.

Base Vehicles

These are the vehicles that you start each class of Events with but they’re no slow coach, even the base Sedan can do 197 mph!.

However digitally pre order the game (before this coming Monday) and you’ll get a special VIP sedan to start the game with, with a top speed of 200 mph.

The VIP Sedan is ONLY available via the digital pre order. There is no (and will never be) another way to get this special car with it’s unique livery, rear styling package, exhaust system and gold (green on Xbox One) wheels!

Advanced Vehicle Class for Dangerous Driving

Advanced Vehicles are stronger, hit harder and take less damage, making them the perfect car for Takedown Races or Road Rage, where they are more resilient against the attempts of Rivals to take you down!

Tuned Vehicles

Faster than the Base or Advanced models, the Tuned cars are perfect for ‘Heatwave events’ – they earn and use boost more quickly so you can chain quicker – but also each successful chain in a Tuned car adds 2 mph to your top speed – until you crash!

We have no idea what the limit is on this as we have always crashed after about 30-35 chains!! So we’re looking forward to seeing the YouTube videos of how far you guys push it!

Prototype Vehicles

The Prototype cars have been optimized for Racing – they’ve got more speed than any other but watch out they are also the most fragile!

They have less strength than the other vehicles so whilst you could take them into a Road Rage, you’d be spending more time fleeing your Rivals than taking them down!

And one more thing – These only come in carbon fibre!

Cop Cars

Players start out with the base Sedan Cop Car, perfectly adequate for your every day Pursuit. But as the game progresses and there are more Targets to chase down (up to 5 in later events) you’ll want to unlock the SUV and Supercar Cop Cars.

Check out our other posts to learn more about the Locations and Game Modes in the game.

And don’t forget sign up to our Dangerous Driving Club for a chance to win a FREE digital copy of the game!
